This year, like most of my birthdays, was nothing like the last. I was not booed up, I was not bringing in my birthday drunk and I for once, felt different. At midnight, I was alone, and I was okay with that. I spent the time reflecting on what I could have done better, what I will do better and what I want for my 28th year of life. Every year my birthday brings bouts of nostalgia. I think of childhood memories, friends and failed relationships. However, this year was different. I thought about those relationships but I thought about them differently. What value were they adding to my life? Where were they now?

Ironically, this year I spent my birthday with the people who have always proved to be permanent fixtures in my life no matter the time span. There was nothing temporary about them. This year I vowed to never spend another birthday with a significant other, within reason. I want my birthday to be memories of happiness, joy and growth. I don't want to be in my feelings or wondering if this will be the last birthday I spend with "him", whoever "him" may be. As of now, birthdays are reserved for group outings and vacations.

What Now?I have deemed Chapter 28, the Year of Adventure. I literally want to live my best life in all sense of the phrase. I want to be purely happy and in love with myself and my choices. I want read more, write more and say yes to more. Hence, the creation of this blog. I have blogged a lot over the years but I have never considered by myself a niche blogger. This year , I decided to try something different. Adjectives N Adventures encompasses my love for writing, for food, for hair and for new experiences.

Birthday Dinner Recap

This year my birthday was spent at Wu's House in Orland Park. Wu's house is a Japanese Steak House & Sushi Bar. If you are looking for a family friendly place to enjoy entertainment by way of food, this is the perfect place for you. They also offer $5 Mai Tais on Thursdays, which do not disappoint, as well as providing a perfect ambience for any celebration.

For birthdays, they do a little something extra by singing a birthday song in Japanese as the birthday girl or boy dances. They also provide a slice of cheesecake, my favorite, with a candle atop. However, don't let the atmosphere fool you, you can still get pretty lit here. The cook will occasionally do a squirt bottle challenge with saki to count how much you can actually drink. He did this to me twice and after 2 Mai Tais and 2 saki challenges I definitely felt the effects.

The food also did not disappoint. I ordered Chicken & Shrimp Hibachi with extra broccoli and carrots. After hearing complaints about portions from my parents when they celebrated their anniversary at Benihana, I was not disappointed by the portion sizes at Wu's House. Everything was fresh, tasty and our cook was hilarious. This was my first time attending any Wu's House location and I will definitely be back.

After dinner, we ended the night at Bar Louie in Matteson for a night cap and further conversation. Cheers to new beginnings!

P.S. My birthday didn't end here. Stay tuned for the Atlanta details with my other Ace.

I’m glad you had a great birthday! This looked like so much fun and I love a good Hibachi restaurant. The saki shots from the cook are one of my favorite things. I look forward to seeing what adventures 28 brings you!!
