This weekend I had the pleasure of attending brunch at Peach's Restaurant in Bronzeville with 19 other brown ladies as part of the monthly brunch for Beautiful Brown Girls. Being that it was also Small Business Saturday, this was the perfect way to start the day: black owned and spending black dollars. As you enter the restaurant you are met with bright walls, quirky quotes on the walls reading things like "I woke up like this...Hungry!" and a family like atmosphere. The smell of the tasty food hits you as soon as you come into the door.
The Atmosphere
Peach's is a brunch/lunch restaurant that sits at 4652 S King Dr, Chicago, IL 60653. Their cuisine encompasses breakfast staples with southern charm including menu items like catfish, collard greens, fried chicken and shrimp & grits.

Being that there were 20 ladies in our party, we waited patiently for them to clear a section in order to accomodate us all. One small touch that gave this restaurant a leg up on others is the bench seating at the entrance. This allowed us to be out of the way of the door and cashier.
The Food
The restaurant boasts a modest menu with breakfast staples like pancakes, omelettes and french toasts paired with Southern favorites. I order the Shrimp & Grits($13.95) and a side of salmon croquette($4.95). I was skeptical to order the side of salmon croquette as I thought 5 dollars was steep for 1 croquette.
Our food arrived hot and in excellent time for such a large party. I was excited to try the food since I had been hearing about this restaurant for quite some time from a variety of friends and strangers.

Upon first bite, I received an explosion of flavors in my mouth. The dish comes with a medley of garlic cream sauce, pork bacon, tomatoes, scallions and mushrooms, which I opted to remove, and a side of Texas toast. Although I would have liked a bit more spice in the dish, it was tasty. My only issue with it is that the shrimp are served with the tail on which makes it hard to fully enjoy.
The rest of the ladies seemed content with their orders and no major complaints were heard. There were also raving reviews in regard to the omelettes & catfish.
Overall
Overall the staff was polite, attentive and I will definitely be back to try other dishes that they offer. Peach's is great for a casual brunch with friends or even solo dining at the bar seating. Don't forget to try their peach flavored coffee, which was also a hit with the ladies of the brunch club.
